Playing A Game of What If...
A note to those who don't like networking: Why don't you reframe it, or rename it?
What if you called it connecting, or as someone once suggested to me think of it as making friends.
What if you didn't have to go to a large networking event? What if you created your own events?
What if you invited a friend out for coffee/lunch/drinks, or even better something you like to do? To play your favorite game. It could be anything from golf to your favorite video game.
What if you volunteered for a cause you are interested in? (Not sure where to start? Use volunteermatch.org to find causes and organizations near you.)
Why am I so passionate about getting you to network? Creating a great network leads to experiences you never thought you could have. It genuinely feels good to help someone in your network. You never know when you will need something from your network, but you don't want to be that person who only calls when they need something.
Today, reach out to someone you want to get to know better or contact an old friend just to say hi. Let me know the results (at jankostner@gmail.com) and I'll share your experiences.
