The History of New Year’s Resolutions

Did you know that Julius Caesar created the modern day calendar? That at one time, March 25th was the beginning of the year? That Babalonians were the first—on record—to create New Year's resolutions? And it wasn't resolutions for themselves, it was resolving to support their leader?!

As I was working on my 2023 plan to cure the world of icky networking, my curiosity got the better of me. I went down the rabbit hole of Googling and scrolling to satisfy my curiousity of how these traditions began. Perhaps this new knowledge will come in handy in an upcoming conversation.

Not to waste a good rabbit hole, I decided that one of the ways I am going to cure the world is to use my curiosity about the the people that I meet. I resolve to ask questions like: What is the most fun thing you’re working on? Beyond your job, what do you like to do? Do you have any good streaming suggestions? Have you used any tips I have written about in the past few months? What are you afraid of? I resolve to not open a conversation with: What do you do?

Let's be curious together this year. I'd love to have tea with you to learn more of your tips and experiences—good and bad.

Go to janvkostner.com, send me a message, and we'll get together.
