Pique Curiosity

“There are no elevators in Key West*,”  a friend wrote after reading my blog about the need for an elevator pitch. Whether you meet someone in an elevator, or have to introduce yourself in a meeting, it may feel icky. But dear reader you can take the ick out by doing two things: find different ways to introduce yourself and of course practice.

Serendipitously, a blog post by Dave Bricker popped into my email recently. His brilliant suggestion is to begin using phrases or questions to introduce yourself. Incorporating how you can help the other person through a question or a turn of a phrase paints a picture, tells a story. It piques curiosity and starts a conversation.

Over the next few weeks, I’m practicing Dave’s technique by writing out intros and practicing them in the wild. My goal? To be the example of how reimagining introductions can help us all connect more effectively.

By the way, I met Dave through Bruce Turkel (who spoke at the Illinois Governor’s Conference many years ago). Dave can help your business grow through story telling. You can learn more and sign up for his blogs here.

*Yes there are elevators, but not many.
