Rikki, Don't Lose That Number
Rikki Don't Lose That Number was a famous song in the 70s that still resonates today, except you don’t have to mail the number to yourself.
One thing about being a good networker is being a good connector.
It can be done in two ways—the proactive or reactive connect.
The proactive connect can happen when you see that two people should meet because they have something in common, and introducing them to each other would result in great things.
The reactive connect is when someone asks you to introduce them to someone you know.
I've done both and there is a good feeling when you're able to help.
There are a few rules. Make sure when you want to connect, either proactively or reactively, that all parties are open to the connection. Sometimes you will need to ask if it's okay to make the connection; sometimes it's not necessary.
But there is one thing that is important and that is that you need to put that number in your phone. Because if you don't have the contact’s information, you won't be able to connect.
Recently, I did lose that number and am kicking myself.
