A Little Discomfort Can Lead to Great Things

We try to avoid discomfort, but when we push through, wonderful things can happen. Perhaps a world-renowned theater company can be born…

Jacqui Russell didn't want to go to the reception. She was at work and didn't have the proper cocktail party attire. Yet she went anyway, in her Lookingglass Theatre t-shirt.

That t-shirt shined like a beacon during the program. So much so that the main speaker, former First Lady of Chicago Maggie Daley, saw Jacqui in the crowd and gave a shoutout to both her and the Lookingglass Theatre.

That shoutout lead to a conversation between Jacqui and Mrs. Daley, a connection which eventually birthed one of the world’s best professional children’s theatres—the Chicago Children’s Theatre.

How did I meet Jacqui? Through a mutual friend—who knew I was looking for a project and that Jacqui needed help on community outreach for the theatre. This lead to a great friendship.

So, when you don’t feel like going, go. You’re probably more prepared than you think. You know your stuff!
